About Central Library:

There are five central libraries in the state of the department. Government Maulana Azad Central Library Bhopal, Government Ahilya Central Library Indore, Government Central Library Gwalior, Government Central Library Rewa, Government Central Library Jabalpur, and district libraries are operated in Chhattisgarh districts - Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dhar, Jhabua, Khargone, Khandwa, Sidhi, Satna, Satna (Nagod), Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Guna, Datia, Shivpuri, Ujjain, Shajapur, Ratlam, Dewas, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Betul, Hoshangabad, Shahdol.

Additionally, the library acquired by the department, Swami Vivekananda Library (formerly the British Library) Bhopal, is also operated. Maulana Azad Central Library Bhopal - Maulana Azad Central Library Bhopal is rapidly developing as an educational center in the city. This year, the main activities include India Quiz 2018, Earth Summit, Graduate Grooming, Self-Analysis Competition, New Pen Writing Reading, Open Motivational Seminar, Sports Day Competitions, Hindi Day Competitions, etc. The past year has been filled with various achievements for the library. Waterproofing and central cooling systems, as well as solar panels, have also been installed.

Government Shri Ahilya Central Library Indore - The central library in Indore has been selected under the National Library Mission Project to be developed into a model library. A budget of Rs. 87.00 lakh has been approved, out of which Rs. 50.00 lakh is for building reinforcement and painting, and Rs. 37.00 lakh is for the development of the library with technical material, necessary materials for visually impaired persons, printed books, e-journals, e-books, etc. Currently, the first installment of the approved amount has been received by the relevant agency, and work has started. The library hosts special events throughout the year, including poetry readings, writing readings, literary gatherings, Librarian's Day, Library Day, etc., by organizations such as Vichar Manch, Ranjan Kalash, Janwadi Lekhak Sangh, Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh, Pathak Sansad, Hindi Parivar, Srijan Samvad, Indore Lekhika Sangh, National Teacher Awareness, Kshitij, etc. Here, students prepare for competitive exams and are provided free study material.

Central Library Gwalior - Monthly events are organized at the library. There has been a development of reading habits among the readers. This year, the main events held at the library included mock tests, career guidance, essay competitions, group discussions, painting competitions, poetry conferences, debates, and quiz competitions. A digital library is being constructed under the Smart City plan at the central library. Central Library Jabalpur - Central Library Jabalpur hosted the first Central India Parental Fest-Progressive Competition with events such as drama, singing, story writing, and painting. The library also organizes book exhibitions, seminars on special days, competitions, mock tests for competitive exams, and seminars by subject experts.

Central Library Rewa - At the Central Library Rewa, various gatherings on the biographies of great men, along with inviting writers, have been organized. Events are held on Teacher's Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti, Bhagat Singh Jayanti, Vishwakarma Jayanti, as well as on Ram Janma, Krishna Janma, and other occasions.

District Libraries Bhopal and Sehore have a total of 18,450 books provided by the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, covering subjects like stories, poetry, yoga, novels, science, drama, women empowerment, etc., with 12,250 books in Hindi and 6,200 in English. At the District Library Rajgarh, events are organized on Panchami, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, and Diwali every year, with regular library members and school students participating. At District Library Narsinghpur, readers of all categories are provided newspapers and magazines. Students from both urban and rural areas use the library for exam preparation. District Library Chhindwara has established a solar energy plant and constructed a hall. District Library Seoni has books available on all subjects, with a total of 213 members. District Library Mandla has started free coaching classes, where students, teachers, and guest scholars provide guidance. Various social magazines related to competitive exams are also purchased.

At Nagod (Satna) District Library, career counseling, awareness camps, hepatitis awareness, and other awareness camps have been organized. District Library Guna is currently automating around 25,000 books. The library now operates for 12 hours, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, following an order by the Collector and Chairman of the District Library Gyan Library. New literature for MP Public Service Commission and other competitive exams is being provided based on readers' demands. District Library Shajapur, previously operated in a rented building, is now being run in the rooms provided by the Integrated Government Mahalakshmi Shajapur in the Kila Complex since 2019. District Library Ratlam is running a special membership campaign in schools and colleges to increase the number of readers, ensuring that more people benefit from the government’s plans. Currently, there are 2,800 registered readers.

At District Library Dewas, literary gatherings by authors are organized from time to time. Students from government and private schools are taken on educational tours, where they are provided books and information. Letters have been issued to school heads to encourage students to benefit from the library. District Library Panna has been successfully operating a study center for the past year, where students preparing for competitive exams are benefiting.

District Library Betul has made proper arrangements for clean drinking water for the readers. To increase the number of library visitors, all essential facilities are being provided. District Library Shahdol has installed glass partitions in the reading hall for the protection of books and also provided reverse osmosis (RO) water coolers. A borewell has been drilled for the water supply. Swami Vivekananda Library - The website for Swami Vivekananda Library began operations in 2019. The first phase of the website, created by Map IT, has gone live. It includes information about the library’s collection, membership fees, new book arrivals, and upcoming events. The domain name is www.asichas.in. The second phase will be completed by the end of this year, which will include an online payment gateway and a book discussion forum for members. The catalog of the Swami Vivekananda Library was also made available online in 2019. Around 3,000 new books have been added to the collection, including the new book "Good Economics for Hard Times" by Nobel Prize-winning author Abhijit Banerjee. Monthly events are organized, with youth discussions held during Gandhi Jayanti.
