District Education and Training Institutes (DIET) / District Resource Centers (DRC)

District Education and Training Institutes (DIET) is a nodal agency that provides academic and resource support at the grassroots level for the success of various strategies and programs implemented in primary and adult education, especially in the context of the Universalization of Primary Education and the National Literacy Mission.

The National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986 adapted to support academic and resource support at both national and state levels in the fields of primary education, with institutions like NCERT, NIEPA, and SCERT. At the district level, DIET was envisioned as part of this support system to improve teacher education quality and reform primary and adult education.

DIET's approach is to engage learners actively and enthusiastically, rather than being taught by official instructions. In adult education, functional literacy is emphasized, where adults should be actively involved in learning.

DIET will not only establish a close and continuous dialogue with primary schools, teachers, headmasters, school supervisors, trainers/supervisors, and district officials but will also build relationships with institutions at the national, state, and district levels whose objectives align with theirs.
